Ear Irrigation in Cardiff

Safe, Nurse-Led Ear Wax Removal

Ear irrigation is a clinically recognised method of ear wax removal used to clear softer wax build-ups where it is appropriate and safe to do so. At Cardiff Ear Wax Nurse, ear irrigation is carried out by Samantha Jane Gaudion, an experienced Nurse Practitioner with over 25 years of clinical experience, ensuring professional and patient-focused care.

This procedure is only offered following a full ear assessment and when irrigation is deemed the most suitable option for your ear health.

What Is Ear Irrigation?

Ear irrigation is a controlled warm-water technique used to gently flush softened ear wax from the ear canal. Modern irrigation equipment allows the flow of water to be carefully regulated, providing a safe and effective method of wax removal when clinically appropriate.

Ear irrigation is not the same as traditional syringing and is performed in line with current clinical standards.

When Is Ear Irrigation Recommended?

Ear irrigation may be recommended when:

  • Wax is soft and suitable for irrigation

  • Microsuction is not the most appropriate option

  • There are no medical contraindications

  • A full ear examination confirms suitability

Your ears will always be assessed before treatment, and the safest method will be discussed with you clearly.

Preparing for Your Ear Irrigation Appointment

To improve treatment effectiveness, you may be advised to use olive oil or almond oil drops in the affected ear(s) prior to your appointment. This helps soften the wax and allows for easier, safer removal. Full guidance will be provided when booking.
